Generals Complete Comeback with 7-6 Walk-Off Win over Marshals

The Victoria Generals scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday night to come from behind and get a walk-off victory over the Texas Marshals by a final score of 7-6. With the bases loaded and one out, Brian Portelli served an RBI single to centerfield to score the winning run for the Generals.

The Marshals received a great outing from starting pitcher Austin Hilton who tossed 7.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Hilton was in line for the win before the Generals mounted their comeback in the ninth.

The Marshals scored four runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Mason Mantle hit a two-run single sandwiched between RBI singles by Casey Mullennix and Chase Daughdrill.

The Generals scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning on an RBI ground out by Alvaro Rondon.

Carson Shaddy shot an RBI single to right field to plate Daniel Rushing in the sixth inning to put the Marshals ahead 5-1.

The Generals added a run in the top of the 7th on an RBI single by Dayfran Ortiz to cut the Marshals lead to 5-2.

A sacrifice fly by Mantle to score Mullennix in the eighth inning pushed the Marshals lead to 6-2.

An RBI double by Kyle Danford for the Generals put an end to Hilton's stellar night on the mound. Joseph Herbert came on in relief and induced a ground ball to third base, but an error on the play gave the Generals another run and cut he Marshals lead to 6-4.

Then in the top of the ninth, the Generals loaded the bases with one out against Herbert who was then lifted for reliever Keaton Brewer. Cederic Vallieres was hit by a pitch to score a run and make it 6-5. Danford then walked to tie the game up at 6-6 before Portelli delivered the RBI single to complete the Generals come-from-behind, walk-off 7-6 win.

With the win, the Generals improve to 13-5 on the season and the Marshals fall to 3-15. The two teams will meet again at 7:35pm on Friday night for game two of the series in Victoria. The Marshals will finish up their road trip with a two-game series in Bryan against the Brazos Valley Bombers on Saturday and Sunday nights.
