
Generals Comeback to Beat Marshals 9-7

The Victoria Generals erased a 6-0 deficit on Sunday night en route to a come-from-behind 9-7 win over the Texas Marshals in Dallas to sweep the two-game series. Generals starting pitcher James Swan (University of Texas) struggled with his command in the first two innings of the game, walking eight batters and allowing six runs on just two hits.
The Generals relief pitching duo of Matthew Burks (Eastern New Mexico) and Drake Roberts (St. Mary's University) scattered 10 hits across 6.1 innings and allowed just one run to allow the Generals offense to climb back into the game.
The Generals cut the Marshals lead in half with three runs in the top of the third and then tied the game with three more in the top of the fourth off of Marshals starting pitcher Holden Novak (Centenary College). Novak allowed six runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
The Generals broke up the tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning off of Marshals relief pitcher Collin Sherrod (St. Edward's University) on an RBI single by Cedric Vallieres (Texas State University).
The Marshals tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning as James Stroud (Cochise College) stroked an RBI double down the left field line to plate Chase Daughdrill (Northwestern State University).
The Generals retook the lead for good in the top of the seventh as Brian Portelli (Florida International University) hit a two-run triple that got by Dominic Todarello's diving attempt in right field to make it a 9-7 game. Joe Powell (Texas State University) took the loss for the Marshals.
Bryce Welborn (San Jacinto College) picked up the save as he closed the door in the ninth for the Generals.
Daughdrill and Carlos Contreras (Northwood University) had three hits apiece to lead the Marshals offense.
With the win, the Generals improved to 3-0 on the season as the Marshals fell to 1-3. The Marshals will have the day off on Monday before traveling to Victoria to start a four-game road trip on Tuesday night. The Marshals next home game is Saturday night at 7:05pm at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas against the Generals.
