Gems to Host Charity Golf Tournament
August 31, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, Ohio - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team has teamed up with local non-profit agency Diabetes Dayton to host the 1st Annual Dayton Gems Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 8 at the Larch Tree Golf Course.
While the action on the ice won't be heating up until later in October, the Gems team will be in full force during the golfing event with players positioned at each hole to provide the participants an opportunity to meet this year's squad. Golfers will also have the opportunity to compete for raffle tickets at each hole by challenging Gems players in different "hockey themed" contests, as well as for special competitions scattered throughout the afternoon for entries into the grand raffle during dinner for prizes. After the golfing has concluded, participants will be treated to a catered dinner and awards presentation to wind down the event.
Furthering the Gems commitment to helping those in the community, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Diabetes Dayton to directly benefit those in need right here in the Miami Valley. A local, independent diabetes agency serving the region, Diabetes Dayton is dedicated to the assistance and support of individuals affected by diabetes.
Diabetes Dayton executive director Susan McGovern commented on the event by stating "we're very excited to be partnering again with the Dayton Gems on another fun event that benefits those affected by diabetes. Like Diabetes Dayton, the Dayton Gems are a local presence committed to giving back to the community and we're honored to be part of their efforts."
Registration for the event is now underway for only $65 per golfer, and includes green fees, riding cart, drink tickets on the course, catered dinner and much more. The deadline for both individual and team registration is Friday, October 7 at 3pm. The tournament format will be a foursome scramble, and features a 1pm shotgun start. Golfers of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate in this fun event for a great local cause, and the Gems are offering a pair of tickets to an upcoming game at Hara Arena for the first twenty golfers registered.
Businesses and organizations wishing to contribute to the cause can become a hole sponsor for only $100, complete with signage and recognition at the event and online.
To register for the event, or for more information on becoming a hole sponsor, call the Gems office at (937) 275-7777 or visit www.DaytonGems.com.
