Gasper Returns for Third Season with Mallards
July 7, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (July 7, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have re-signed center Joel Gasper. Per club policy, no contract terms were announced.
Gasper, 27, scored nine goals and totaled 24 points in 62 games last season. The Crookston, Minnesota, native returns for a third season in the Quad Cities after serving as a Mallard alternate captain each of the last two years.
"I am a big fan of blue collar guys and Joel is the definition of that," said Mallards head coach and general manager David Bell. "He will be relied on in key situations and on key faceoffs. His ability to play at both ends of the ice gives me a player who can play in all situations and makes him a valuable member of the Mallards. His leadership qualities will be an asset in the locker room and on the ice."
Gasper has scored 34 times and recorded 88 points in 214 games over four professional seasons. He played in his two hundredth career game when he took to the ice for the Mallards on February 26 in Dayton.
The Mallards originally acquired Gasper in a September, 2009, trade with the Flint Generals. Gasper scored 14 goals and produced 32 points while playing in each of Quad City's 76 International Hockey League games in 2009-10.
Gasper broke into pro hockey by playing nine games with the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs in the spring of 2008 immediately after completing his college career at Robert Morris. He spent the bulk of the 2008-09 season with Flint after starting the year with the Port Huron Icehawks. The 6' 2", 205-pound Gasper registered 11 goals and 30 points in 67 total games during that campaign. In 115 career games at RMU Gasper notched 12 goals and 37 points.
Gasper's is the second signing announced by the Mallards for the 2011-12 season. The signing of center Eric Giosa was announced earlier this week. Season tickets for the Flock's 2011-12 campaign are now on sale. Mallard season ticket holders receive significant savings and a host of exclusive benefits.
