Garrett Coliseum to offer beer sales
June 21, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Montgomery Bears News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Country music star Hank Williams performed in the first-ever event held at the brand new Garrett Coliseum in 1951. A lot has changed in the 54 years since, but one thing has remained the same. Beer sales have never been allowed in the state-run facility... until now. On Saturday, June 25 the Montgomery Maulers will host the Lubbock Gunslingers in a National Indoor Football League (NIFL) game. The game will mark the first event in Garrett Coliseum's 54-year history that fans will be allowed to purchase beer at the concession stands.
Sports Café, the concession company out of Birmingham that handles the arena's food and beverage, received its liquor license from the state on Tuesday. The delivery of the license was the final hurdle in clearing the way for beer sales at all events in the 8,000-seat arena. The application had already been approved by the state Department of Agriculture and Industries, which oversees the Garrett Coliseum Board, and the Montgomery City Council. The first-year Maulers (7-6) have averaged almost 4,000 fans in their previous six home games. The team can clinch the NIFL Central Division title and secure a first-round home playoff game by winning Saturday night's game.
