American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(NASHUA, NH, September 13, 2007) The Nashua Pride have taken a commanding two games to none lead in the best-of-five Can-Am League Championship Series. The Pride struck for 14 hits, two of them home runs, in a 7-5 victory over the North Shore Spirit Thursday night before a crowd of 1,422 at Historic Holman Stadium. The series moves to Fraser Field in Lynn, Massachusetts for game three on Friday evening at 6:05 pm.
The Spirit took an early lead with a pair of first inning runs off Nashua starter Joe Gannon. Former Pride utility player Mike Torres stroked a two-out, two-run double to put North Shore in front.
The lead didn't last long as Nashua responded with four runs in the second inning of Spirit starter and loser Matthew Bishop. John Ramistella and Jermy Acey stroked back-to-back two-out, two-run singles to give the Pride the lead they would never relinquish. Bishop left the game after the second inning. He was the first of five North Shore pitchers on the night.
Nashua made it 7-2 in the fifth inning when Acey opened the frame with a home run off reliever Gary Galvez. Olmo Rosario followed Acey's blast with a single and then Chris Colabello belted his third home run of the post season, a two-run blast to left center field.
North Shore rallied for three runs in the eighth inning off Gannon and reliever Steve Palazzolo before Rich Garces emerged from the bullpen to get the final out of the inning on one pitch and then retired the side in order in the ninth to post the save. In winning his second game of the playoffs, Gannon, a knuckleballer, worked seven and one-third innings allowing four runs (all earned), seven hits, walking five and striking out nine.
The game featured three ejections in the sixth inning when first baseman Josue Lopez, manager/DH Vic Davilla and coach Tom Donahue were all given the heave-ho after arguing balls and strikes.
The Pride will send Hideki Nagasaka (10-1, 2.94) in an effort to win the Can-Am League Championship in three straight games. The Spirit are scheduled to go with Luis Arroyo (LHP, 1-0, 1.38). All Pride post season games can be heard on the Internet at www.nashuapride.com or www.canamleague.com.
