April 17, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Tonight is game six of the second round playoff series between the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Montreal Junior. The MAINEiacs currently have a 3-2 lead in the series, thanks to consecutive victories in games two, three and four, defeating Montreal 6-2, 2-1, and 4-1 respectively. The Junior picked up their wins in games one and five, using overtime in both contests, taking final scores of 6-5 and 5-4.

Home Sweet Home

After the series between Lewiston and Moncton saw the road team win three of the five games, this series has had more of a home flavor, as the home team has won four out of five games thus far. With Friday night's win, the Junior improved to 2-1 at Verdun Auditorium in the series. Thanks to a pair of victories on Tuesday and Wednesday, the MAINEiacs enter tonight 2-0 in the series at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Down to the Wire

The first five games in this series have all been decided in either the third period or overtime. Both of Montreal's wins were decided in the extra session (winning goals scored 4:52 and 21:37 in), while all three of Lewiston's victories were decided after entering the third period with the score tied (winning goals scored with 7:37, 0:05, and 19:27 remaining).

That's Powerful

Both teams have had their power plays clicking in this series, as the two sides have combined for 14 power play goals in five games. Each team has scored at least one goal on the man advantage in every game, with the exception of game three, when both units were held off of the scoreboard. The MAINEiacs have converted ten times on 34 opportunities (29.4%), while the Junior have four tallies on 22 opportunities (18.2%) in the series.

Streaking Scorers

Lewiston's Olivier Dame-Malka and Kirill Kabanov have been playing some of their best hockey as of late, as both enter tonight's contest on seven-game point streaks. Dame-Malka has seven goals, seven assists, and 14 points in that span, while Kabanov has five goals, nine assists, and 14 points in that span. Dame-Malka's five power play goals and seven total goals are the most in the current series.

Three Series Left to Decide

The series between the MAINEiacs and Junior is one of three second round series left to be decided in the QMJHL. Saint John is the lone team to advance to round three thus far, thanks to a five-game defeat of Victoriaville. Quebec currently leads Shawinigan 3-2, with game six taking place in Shawinigan this afternoon. Gatineau currently leads Drummondville 3-2, and will host game six tonight.
