Game Preview: The Mustangs Head to Philly

June 3, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Milwaukee Mustangs News Release

Mustangs fans won't soon forget the last time Milwaukee went up against the Philadelphia Soul. A touchdown pass from RJ Archer to Dwayne Eley Jr. with no time left on the clock gave the Mustangs a thrilling 51-49 win. Milwaukee players and coaches stormed the field, the Bradley Center erupted, and Milwaukee picked up its first win of the season.

Fast forward two months. The Mustangs (3-7) head to the City of Brotherly Love in the hopes of getting on a roll for the last eight games of the regular season. The Soul (4-7) are looking to do the same thing.

Philadelphia has won two of its last three games, and is coming off of an impressive 70-49 win over the New Orleans VooDoo. Quarterback Ryan Vena led the Soul to the easy win by throwing for 292 yards and six touchdowns.

Vena didn't do the signal calling in the first meeting between the East Division foes. Justin Allgood was the quarterback for the Soul in April, but was traded to Tulsa in mid-May. Vena has been pretty solid running the Philadelphia offense since taking the reins in April. The Colgate product and AFL veteran has thrown for 1,526 yards and 31 touchdowns this season.

Vena has a solid target in wide receiver Donovan Morgan. The 6-foot-3 pass catcher leads the league with 1,387 receiving yards. He's caught 87 passes and has a whopping 26 TDs. Defending Morgan won't be an easy task for Andre Jones and his teammates in the defensive backfield.

The road hasn't been friendly to Milwaukee. The Mustangs are 1-3 away from the comforts of the Bradley Center. That will have to change if Milwaukee hopes to make a late-season run toward the top of the division, because the Mustangs have five more road games on the schedule.

Milwaukee packs its bags and heads to Philadelphia, but you can catch the game in the comfort of home. Listen to the Mustangs do some Soul searching live on ESPN 540 AM. Game time is slated for 6:05 p.m.
