San Diego Seals News Release
The San Diego Seals are gearing up to face off against the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday, March 31 at Pechanga Arena San Diego in a fight for the top spot in the West Division. Faceoff is set for 7pm PT.
The Seals are coming off of a doubleheader weekend, where they split the series with a win against Panther City Lacrosse Club on Friday and an overtime loss against the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday. The Seals remain at first place in the West Division with a 10-3 record.
The Roughnecks are right behind the Seals, sitting at second in the West with a 10-4 record. Calgary came away from their game on Friday night with a 14-6 road win over the Saskatchewan Rush. Their goaltender, Christian Del Bianco, has the best save percentage amongst all goalies with 43 saves that night.
This is the third time this season that the Seals and Roughnecks have faced one another. Friday's match will serve as a series tie-breaker; the Seals took the win on December 30, and Calgary came away victorious on January 14. The key to victory in both matchups? A fast start. In December, the Seals netted a franchise-high 13 goals in the first half alone. On the other hand, in January the Roughnecks took a 5-0 lead against San Diego early in the first quarter. If either team wants to win on Friday, offensive production right off the bat is integral.
Playoff contention is on the line for both teams this weekend. If the Seals come away with a win on Friday, they clinch a playoff berth. This would make them the first team to clinch for the West Division. Similarly, if the Las Vegas Desert Dogs lose to the Colorado Mammoth on Friday, the Seals and the Roughnecks will both earn themselves a postseason spot. The Desert Dogs vs. Mammoth game will begin at 6pm PT on Friday, March 31.
Aside from clinching playoffs, this game holds the potential for forward Curtis Dickson to reach an impressive NLL milestone. Dickson is only six goals away from reaching 500 in his career, which would make him only the eighth individual to achieve this feat.
This Friday's home game will also be Latin Heritage Night, where the Seals pay homage to the vibrant Latino(a) community here in San Diego. Read more about this exciting, fun-filled night here. Additionally, a special Everbowl Promo is available for purchase for Friday's game. More information, as well as ticketing info, can be found here.
The night will begin at 5pm with Lucha Libre matches put on by Level Up Wrestling, lasting until 6:30 pm. Also featured in the pregame tailgate will be lowrider displays courtesy of Aztlan Car Club, performances from Mariachi Mi Torres and Wa-Kushma Folk Production, as well as a taco truck, live music, and drinks available to purchase.
