Game Preview: Fever vs Lynx

Two games remain in the Indiana Fever's regular season, and both are against the Minnesota Lynx. The Fever host the Lynx in their final home contest on Tuesday, then travel to Minnesota's Target Center for their regular season finale on Thursday.
Indiana fell to the Washington Mystics on Sunday as the Fever put up their third-lowest scoring total of the season. The 93-77 loss caused the Fever to drop a full game behind the Atlanta Dream for fourth place in the league standings. Indiana will need help from other teams to secure home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell combined to score 47 points against the Mystics, but shot just 14-for-40 from the floor. Indiana struggled to find any sort of momentum or rhythm as its shots refused to fall.
"We shot the ball probably as poorly as we've shot it all year long," Clark said postgame. "Sometimes that's just how the game of basketball goes...We've had the best offense in the league all year, and [tonight] just didn't feel like us."
The Fever will search for a bounce-back game against the league-best Lynx on Tuesday.
Minnesota is led by Rookie of the Year frontrunner Olivia Miles and All-WNBA forward Napheesa Collier. Together, the pair averages nearly 38 points per game. The Lynx have three other players averaging double-figure scoring totals nightly - Kayla McBride, Courtney Williams, and former Fever player Natasha Howard.
Not only are the Lynx a capable offensive team, but Minnesota's defense is top-3 in the WNBA. They've conceded 100 points or more just four times, and still have a 3-1 record in those games. On average, Lynx opponents score 83.8 points per game and shoot 44 percent from the field.
The Fever were one of those four teams to rack up 100 points against Minnesota, but fell to the Lynx in their initial meeting this season, 108-100. Indiana has the tools to outdo an impressive Lynx team, but it'll need to rely on its defense to create transition opportunities and boost its offense.
Tuesday marks the penultimate contest in the Fever's regular season. The finale will be another matchup with the Lynx on Thursday, September 24, at Minnesota's Target Center.
