Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 4/15/11 - The Amarillo Venom hits the road this week to take on the Wichita Wild in Wichita, Kansas, Saturday, April 16th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Both teams come into the game searching for their first win of the 2011 season. Wichita is 0-5 and coming off of a 34-26 loss on the road to the Omaha Beef. The Amarillo Venom is coming off of a 27-24 loss to the Colorado Ice and has now lost six games by a combined 31 points (5.16 points/game).
"It's been frustrating," said Rodney Blackshear, the Head Coach of the Venom. "Every game we've had a chance to win, but one or two plays late have cost us. We have to eliminate those one or two plays and keep our focus the entire 60 minutes."
The Venom look to Andrew Carcich once again this week as he's been named the starter at quarterback for the game against the Wild. Carcich replaced starter X'Zavier Bloodsaw late in the second quarter against the Ice and finished the game 7-12 with 86 yards passing and one touchdown. He also had 26 yards rushing on six attempts and two touchdowns.
"X'Zavier looked better in practice the week leading up to the Colorado game so Coach (Julian) Reese and I made the game-time decision to start Bloodsaw," said Coach Blackshear. "Carcich had the better game performance and has earned the starting position outright."
The Wild have been dealing with some off the field issues this week as Ken Matous was relieved of his coaching duties. Morris Lolar, who was already on staff as an assistant coach, has been named the Interim Head Coach.
