Camden Riversharks News Release
Central Islip, N.Y. - The Long Island Ducks took game one of the 2004 Atlantic League Championship Series from the Camden Riversharks, 11-10, on Friday night at Citibank Park. Justin Davies singled home Jason Johnson to end the nearly four and a half hour contest that started just after 7 p.m.
The loss spoiled a valiant comeback by the Riversharks, who were just two outs away form dropping the contest in regulation when designated hitter Chris Widger hit a game-tying grand slam off Joe Cotton in the top of the ninth inning.
Widger's first home run of the post season knotted the game at 10-10 and sent the game to extra innings after the Ducks were retired in the home half of the ninth.
The loss ended the Riversharks nine game winning streak, which included the final seven game of the regular season.
Camden and Long Island will be right back at it on Saturday night as the Riversharks will look for a split of the two games at Citibank Park. Camden will send left hander Kevin Dougherty to the hill against the former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Matt Beech. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Regardless of what happens on Saturday night, the series will shift to Campbell's Field on Sunday evening when the two teams meet in game three of the best of five series. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 866-SHARKS-9, logging onto www.riversharks.com or by visiting the Campbell's Field ticket office during normal business hours.
