THE SERIES:
The Iowa Barnstormers have an overall series record of 3 -4 against the Orlando Predators. Iowa is 1-3 against Orlando in the regular season, and 2-1 during the playoffs. Iowa went defunct and moved to New York as the New York Dragons the next year.
THE IFs:
If Orlando defeats Iowa, it would ...
Give Orlando a 5-3 series record with Iowa
Give Orlando a 1-0 home record in 2010
Give Pat O'Hara his first win as an AFL coach
HEAD COACHES:
Orlando's Pat O'Hara is in his first season as Head Coach of the team he led to two Arena Bowl titles (1998, 2000). Last season O'Hara coached in af2 with Tri-Cities Fever.
Iowa coach John Gregory has had a long and historic coaching career in the AFL. Gregory won the 1995 and 1996 AFL Coach of the Year while coaching the Iowa Barnstormers earlier in his coaching career. John Gregory also gave a little known grocery store employee, Kurt Warner, his first shot at being a professional quarterback.
LAST SERIES MEETING:
The last meeting between the two teams Orlando won 48-40 during the 1999 season. The game between the two was the American conference final, in which Orlando upset Iowa in its run to Arenabowl XIII.
SERIES NOTABLES:
During its shocking run to ArenaBowl XIII, Orlando beat Iowa as an eight seed in Iowa, 56-49.
MILESTONES:
Third game of 2010 season
Home opener for the 2010 season
DROPBACK:
This is the third game of the season for the Orlando Predators, who lost their first two games to open up the season 0-2. Orlando lost to Bossier- Shreveport 67-73 and Jacksonville the next week 31-57.
FORWARD MOTION:
After playing Iowa for its first game the Predators travel to Dallas to play the Vigilantes on May 7th. Iowa travels back home to play the Cleveland Gladiators on May 8th.
TEAM NOTES/TRENDS:
Predators unranked in latest AFLWA Poll: The Predators are out of the Arena Football League Writers Association Top 8 poll for the third straight week. The Iowa Barnstormers are also unranked in the latest poll. Both teams look to gain respect among the league and move up the polls with a win.
PLAYERS/MATCHUPS TO WATCH:
Barnstormers QB Ryan Vena: Vena looks to continue on his impressive second half performance from the Oklahoma City game, where he threw for two touchdowns and ran in for another two. Vena is actually third in the league in rushing, so don't be surprised if we see Vena tuck the ball and run it if he sees the opportunity.
Orlando QB Nick Hill: Nick Hill is coming off a rough performance against the Jacksonville Sharks, passing for just three touchdowns while throwing two interceptions. Hill looks to rebound against the Barnstormers, who give up an average of 62 points per game. Iowa ranks near the bottom of the list on passing defense, giving up 338.7 yards per game.
Orlando WR T.T. Toliver: T.T. has been a model of consistency for the first couple of games for the Predators. Toliver ranks in the top ten in three separate statistical categories on offense so far in the season, including receiving yards per game and receptions per game. Toliver earned the Cutters catch of the week against the Sharks, a play that was shown on ESPN's Sportscenter Top 10 plays.
