San Diego Sunfire News Release

SAN DIEGO - The SunFire ventures into Houston for a non-conference match-up against the three-time WPFL champion Houston Energy this Saturday, September 6, 5:05 p.m. PT at Rice Stadium.

The San Diego SunFire, which dropped to 1-3 in WPFL American Conference play, suffered major injuries in a 38-20 loss to the Arizona Caliente last Saturday at North High School Stadium in Phoenix. Running backs Railene Ritzberg (arm) and Jasmine Sveum (back) are listed as day-to-day on the SunFire injury report and their status for the Houston contest will be a game day decision.

The Energy enter the contest with a 2-1 record, not counting its most recent loss, a 26-14 defeat at the hands of the Long Beach Aftershock. The game was considered a "promotional" game by the league. Saturday night's tilt will be Houston's home opener. This marks the first meeting ever between San Diego and Houston.

SUNFIRE STAR - Quarterback Aisha Ruffo was 13 for 22 for a total of 226 yards, 1 TD and no interceptions

TWO-WAY STUD - Carmen Cruz had nine receptions for 180 yards and 1 TD on the offensive side of the ball, while on defense, she was also the second leading defender with eight tackles.

ROOKIE WATCH - Angela Corinne has an interception in three consecutive games.

The San Diego SunFire is a member of the 17-team Women's Professional Football League. The SunFire's 2003 regular season consists of a 10-game schedule with San Diego playing its home games at La Jolla High School.
