San Diego, CA â San Diego's longest operating women's pro team is back for season number 4!! Fresh off it's fourth straight winning season, the SunFire announces open tryouts for March 13th.
The SunFire's short history is chock full of San Diego pride. Fans can even find out info on the team at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. The SunFire founder's jersey is on display along with some of the team's memorabilia. Fans can go to the San Diego International Sports Council, as there is info on our team and the impact we've made in the Council's year-end report. The San Diego Business Journal also says we've added to the impact of Sports here in the city. The SunFire is considered one of the best teams in Women's Football, having developed a successful non-profit and after school programs. Gridiron Girls Inc. was selected by the NFL to host a Women's Football exhibition at the 2003 SuperBowl. GGI started the first ever Women's Flag Football League in San Diego. And, its signature Pigskin Pixie mini clinics have become a major attraction to young girls around San Diego. The women have volunteered hundreds of hours conducting girl's football clinics all over San Diego. For the third straight year they were asked to host the San Diego Chargers NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick championship. The SunFire has formed alliances with various organizations for National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebrations. San Diego's Super Women have never had a losing season! The city showed it's appreciation by proclaiming December 14th, San Diego SunFire Day!
The SunFire seeks active women ages 18 years and older for an NFL combine style tryout. Experienced College Athletes from all sports are invited. Here's your chance to play American style tackle football with one of the best teams in the country!
WHEN: Saturday, March 13th (Tryout 1)
WHERE: Miramar Base â Field One â From 15 exit Miramar Way.. Go through back gate. Tell Guard that you are there for the Women's Football team. Go to the first light and go right. The street is Gonsalves. Go up 2 streets â past the new gym. Take a Right on Elrod. Go through stop sign and bear right.
TIME: 10am â 12pm Registration starts at 9 am
FORMAT: Format: NFL style combine, 40-yard dash, short shuttle, position and ball handling drills.
Cleats required and a mouthpiece is suggested. No contact at tryout.
SIGNUP: Email tryouts@sandiegosunfire.com for registration materials. Participants must bring a photocopy of id and insurance. - LIMITED to just 50 participants!
