Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Not Gone for Long

After playing four straight games at home, the MAINEiacs headed out on the road on Tuesday morning, where they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Montreal Junior. Lewiston is now back at home for three more games at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, as they will play host to Quebec twice and Montreal once. The MAINEiacs are in the midst of an eight-game home winning streak, which is tied for the second longest streak of such sorts in franchise history.

1 Meets 2

For the first time since November, the top two teams in the Telus East Division will take the ice together, as Lewiston plays host to Quebec. The Remparts currently lead the division with 79 points, and are in third place overall, trailing Montreal by four points for second. The MAINEiacs are in second place in the division with 72 points, and are in fifth place overall, trailing Drummondville by three points for fourth.

A Pair of Shiny Medals

For the second year in a row, Ryan Bourque comes to his native country after winning a medal at the World Junior Championship. Last year, Bourque and Team USA captured the gold, defeating Canada 6-5 in overtime on current Washington Capital John Carlson's goal. This year, the Americans snagged the bronze, doubling up Sweden 4-2. Bourque is the only current player in the QMJHL with multiple medals at the World Junior Championship.

Strength Faces Strength

Throughout the season, the MAINEiacs' penalty killing and Remparts' power play numbers have been found at or near the top of their respective lists. Both teams will take their strengths into this weekend, as Lewiston's third ranked penalty kill (82.2%) will tangle with Quebec's first ranked power play (27.5%). The Remparts' penalty killing is also strong, ranking sixth overall (80.6%), while the MAINEiacs' power play currently sits in 14th place (17.1%).

Head-to-Head

Tonight marks the 35th all-time meeting between the MAINEiacs and Remparts, as well as the fifth out of six games between the two clubs this season. Both teams have won twice this season, meaning that Quebec has maintained the overall lead, winning 18 times to Lewiston's 14, while the two sides have tied twice. Only one of the previous four meetings this season has taken place in Lewiston, with the MAINEiacs coming out on top 4-3, running their advantage at home to 9-5, to go along with the two ties.

Who to Watch for

The Quebec Remparts have an offense built similar to that of the MAINEiacs. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault's 76 points give him the spot at the top of the mountain, while Joel Champagne's 66 points place him in second by a significant margin. After that, five different players have at least 40 points, while another three have over 30. In goal, Louis Domingue leads the QMJHL with 29 wins.

TRISTON MANSON RETURNS TO LEWISTON!

On August 21st, 2006, the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Shawinigan Cataractes hooked up for a trade. The MAINEiacs sent a 5th round pick in 2007 to the Cataractes in exchange for forward Triston Manson. Fans in Lewiston knew exactly what they were getting with Manson, who spent 119 minutes in the penalty box as a rookie with Shawinigan. The 20-year old wasted little time making an impact with his new squad, picking up a fighting major in his first game of the season at PEI. Lots of MAINEiacs fans consider Manson to be one of the best fighters in franchise history, as he went on to drop the gloves 17 times in a Lewiston uniform. Along with the rough stuff, the Halifax, Nova Scotia

native also picked up three goals and seven assists in 60 regular season games, before lighting the lamp in game one of the 2007 President's Cup Final against Val-d'Or.

Come out to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee tonight, and see one of the most popular members of the Lewiston MAINEiacs' proud past!

Tomorrow Night is Proctor & Gamble / Good Shepherd Food Bank Night!

All fans attending tomorrow night's game are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the Good Shepherd Food Bank!

LEWY'S LEGION STREET GANG

In preparation for every MAINEiacs' home game, the Lewy's Legion Street Gang makes their way out to the streets of Lewiston and Auburn with bells, horns, signs, and MAINEiacs' gear, hoping to lure the passing drivers into the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for that night's game. Come join them this weekend at the following locations:

TODAY: Lewiston 11:30-1:00, at the intersection of Main and Lincoln Streets (right near the river, opposite end of the bridge from Gritty's).

TOMORROW: Auburn 11:00-12:30, repeat appearance at the intersection of Turner St/Mt Auburn Ave, right near the Residence Inn.
