Game 1 Preview

March 25, 2015 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Alabama Hammers News Release

The 2015 season of Alabama Hammers football begins this Friday, March 27, as the Hammers travel to Nashville to face the defending Professional Indoor Football League's (PIFL) champion Venom. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.

"Facing the defending PIFL champions will be a tough task for us as the Venom have several pieces returning from their team of a year ago, plus the home environment for the Venom is always exciting," said Scott Sharp, head coach of the Hammers. "We have nearly a brand new roster this year having just seven players on our team that have previous arena football experience."

Sharp, in his first season as a head coach in the arena game, will have a charged-up offense with several new names on the field. One player who can lead the squad is returning receiver and all-star performer Mico McSwain who had 79 receptions for 24 touchdowns for the Hammers in 2014, which posted a 4-8 record. McSwain is the PIFL's all-time leader in receiving touchdowns with 79. On defense, Sharp is looking for solid defensive play led by Ginikachi Ibe who had 42 tackles a year ago.

"We've got some players on defense who can make some big plays," added Sharp.

The 2015 Hammers Radio Network can be heard on WAFN-FM, 92.7 Fun Radio-Arab, WZZN-FM, 97.7 The Zone-Huntsville and WWIC-AM, 1050-Scottsboro. Michael St. John and Steve Moulton will call the action during the 2015 season.
