Orlando Rays News Release
ORLANDO -Five Greenville pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Braves snapped Orlando's three-game winning streak, downing the Rays 4-0 at Cracker Jack Stadium Monday.
Orlando couldn't come up with the clutch hit, stranding 13 runners on the night. Fernando Cortez led Orlando's attack, going 3-5 on the night while Jace Brewer also chipped in with two hits.
The struggling offense wasted a strong performance by Orlando starter Chris Flinn (L, 1-2). Flinn, making a spot start out of the bullpen, went five innings and allowed two runs - both earned - on three hits while striking out five. Bartolome Fortunato and Dan Guillory tossed three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit over the G-Braves final three at-bats.
Greenville starter Brett Evert (W, 4-8) earned the win after holding Orlando to four hits and three walks over six innings of work. He also struck out five O-Rays hitters on the night.
With the loss Orlando dropped to 28-30 on the second half and 60-67 overall. The win pushed Greenville's record to 28-35, 64-67 overall, and ran the Braves winning streak to three.
The teams continue the series tomorrow at 7:05 as the Rays send lefty Jason Cromer (1-3, 4.07) to the mound against Greenville righty Adam Wainwright (8-8, 3.69).
