Gwinnett Stripers News Release

The Gwinnett Braves held off the Rochester Red Wings 6-3 on Tuesday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. A 43-minute game delay due to Rochester's equipment van getting to the stadium late seemed to foreshadow what was to come for the Red Wings. G-Braves starter Chris Resop (6-2), on an ML rehab, made the Red Wings look as if their bats never arrived - holding them hitless in 5 frames to earn the win. The G-Braves (47-56) remain 16 games behind International League South leaders Durham in last place. The win pulls Gwinnett to within 6.5 games of Wild Card-leaders Syracuse. Rochester (39-66), also in the bottom of their division, fell to 21.5 games behind IL North leaders Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

It Was Over When: Chris Resop picked up right where he left off as Gwinnett's ace starter before being called up to Atlanta on 6/15. Number 39 didn't allow a single hit tonight in his ML rehab start after allowing just 1 hit in a complete game shutout in his last start before being called up on 6/10 @ Norfolk.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: RHP Resop went 5.0 IP without allowing a hit or a run, walking 2 batters and striking out 6 in the win. The Naples, FL, native extended his scoreless innings streak to 14.2 IP (bridging his call-up) - the longest for a G-Braves starter this season. RHP Brandon Beachy made his G-Braves and Triple-A debut tonight, going 4.0 IP with a season-high 7 strikeouts for a reliever for his first save.

At the plate: First baseman Freddie Freeman went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and his 14th home run of the season. Left fielder Matt Young finished 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, while shortstop Brandon Hicks ended up 3-for-4 with a double of his own.

The opposition:

On the Mound: Rochester RHP Matt Fox (5-8) also went 5.0 IP, but yielded 4 R/3 ER on 7 hits, including a homer.

At the plate: Right Fielder Matt Macri was 2-for-3 with a three-run home run for Rochester.

On Deck: Gwinnett continues their season long 12-day, 12-game homestand tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m., trying to take game two of the four game series against Rochester. The G-Braves will send RHP Cristhian Martinez (3-1, 3.57 ERA) to the bump for his third start as a G-Brave after beginning the season in the bullpen. He'll go against RHP Jeff Manship (3-5, 5.15 ERA) for the Red Wings. The game will be broadcast on the radio at WDUN-550 AM.
