Waterloo, Iowa- Three skaters preparing to spend 2014/15 with the Waterloo Black Hawks have been named to the United States Under-18 Select Team which will appear at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in Czech Republic and Slovakia later this summer, USA Hockey announced on Wednesday.

Forwards Nick Swaney, Brock Boeser, and Thomas Novak each earned a place on the squad. Boeser and Novak return to central Europe after playing for the U.S. Under-17 Select Team, which won the Five Nations Tournament in Slovakia last August.

Swaney, a University of Minnesota-Duluth recruit, appeared in four games as a Black Hawk during 2013/14. He scored one goal while delivering a +2 plus/minus differential. A native of Lakeville, Minnesota, Swaney spent most of last winter at Lakeville South High School.

Boeser was a conference rival at Burnsville High School last season, and had a taste of the United States Hockey League with the Sioux City Musketeers. Waterloo acquired the future University of Wisconsin Badger in a postseason trade following eight regular season appearances for the Musketeers, highlighted by three goals and two assists. Boeser took the ice for eight additional Clark Cup playoff games, scoring once.

Novak, from River Falls, Wisconsin, was a prep player at St. Thomas Academy in Minnesota. As a junior, he was the school's leading scorer, averaging nearly three points per game. His time as a Black Hawk will help prepare him for college hockey at the University of Minnesota.

The United States won the silver medal during the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Tournament, traditionally one of the first measuring sticks for many of the following year's NHL Draft prospects. Team USA has claimed first place just once in Ivan Hlinka competition - in 2003 - but has earned a medal of some variety on 11 occasions. The last time a Waterloo Black Hawk participated in the event was 2011, when Vince Hinostroza and Cal Petersen were both chosen.

Games during the event will begin on August 11th in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia. The United States will play in a group which includes Czech Republic, Finland, and Russia. Canada, Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland will also participate in a second group.
