Ottawa Fury FC News Release

OTTAWA, ON - On a historic afternoon at TD Place it was a pair of veterans that played a crucial role in helping Fury FC clinch a postseason berth for the time in club history. Sinisa Ubiparipovic scored a goal in each half and Romuald Peiser tied an NASL record with his 13th shutout of the season sending Ottawa past their Canadian rivals from Edmonton 2-0. On Wednesday, the veteran duo were named to the NASL Team of the Week.

Veteran midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic has been on a tear. Wednesday's honour marks three straight weeks the Bosnian-born midfielder has earned selection to the NASL Team of the Week. Ubiparipovic has 3 goals and 4 assists during Ottawa's last four matches, all victories. Ubiparipovic has already equaled his goal output from 2014 and already has four more assists (now at 7) than he did in the club's inaugural season.

A day after Peiser was named NASL Player of the Month for September, he earns his fifth selection of the 2015 season on the Team of the Week. The veteran French keeper is an experienced voice for Ottawa's defensive shape and made a couple key saves, none bigger than his first half stop on a free-kick from Edmonton's leading scorer Lance Laing. That very save is also in the running for the NASL Play of the Week. The shutout against the Eddies not only helped Ottawa clinch a postseason berth, but saw Peiser tie the NASL record for shutouts in a season with 13. Peiser now has seven clean sheets in the Fall campaign and can equal another NASL record with his next victory which would be his 14th of the season.

Ubiparipovic and Peiser will take their NASL record 9-match road unbeaten streak into Tampa Bay Saturday night for a crucial match against the Rowdies (7:30pm kickoff). Tampa Bay look to remain in the hunt for the fourth and final postseason position, while Fury FC aim to maintain their gap over Minnesota for the Fall Season Championship and the top overall record in the Combined standings. Following Saturday's battle in Tampa Bay, Fury FC return home for their final regular season home match on October 18. Ottawa will host San Antonio at 3:00pm as part of Fan Appreciation Day. Tickets to the October 18 match are available at OttawaFuryFC.com where fans can also purchase tickets to the Championship Semifinal and Championship Final starting Friday, October 9 at 10:00am.
