Detroit Fury News Release

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Members of the 2-1 Detroit Fury Arena Football team will visit the pediatrics unit of William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. The visit is part of the Fury's commitment to the community in 2003.

Hospitalized children in the unit will have the opportunity to meet and talk with several Detroit Fury players on a one-on-one basis. The kids will also have an opportunity to meet Frenzy, the Fury Mascot and two Detroit Fury Cheerleaders. The group will sign autographs and hand out special gifts for the children as a reminder of the special day. The players' main goal is to make every child on the ward smile or laugh during the day.

"This is a great opportunity to immediately give back to the community that has supported us in the past and believed in us this year," said Greg Myford, senior vice president of the Fury. "This visit benefits the players as much as it benefits the children. Our guys are tough guys, but when they get kids their whole demeanor changes and they make it their number one priority to put a smile on each and every kid's face. The kids learn a lot from our players, but the learning is very much a two-way street."

Media should enter William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak through the North Entrance and from there will be escorted to pediatrics. Beaumont Hospital is located at 3601 W. Thirteen Mile Road, Royal Oak, MI 48073. William Beaumont Hospital is a nationally and locally recognized hospital. In 2002, Beaumont, Royal Oak was ranked sixth on a list of America's top 50 hospitals by the AARP. Beaumont was the only Michigan hospital on the list.

The Detroit Fury plays this Sunday, February 23rd at 3:00 p.m. at The Palace of Auburn Hills against the Dallas Desperados. The game will be televised live to over 60% of American homes on the official station of the AFL, NBC.
