Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - Ottawa Fury FC midfielder Phil Davies has announced his retirement. The native of Longueuil, Quebec will however remain in the sport as he has taken a position with the Association Régionale de Soccer de la Rive-Sud.
"I would like to thank the Ottawa Fury FC organization for the past year and a half." said Davies. "It has been a tough year professionally, but mostly personally and I am looking forward to a new challenge. Retiring at 24 is never something that you envisage, but I am proud of what I accomplished over the past 7 years."
"Ottawa became a home away from home for me and I'll never forget that. I'll miss my teammates and coaches who I now call friends. Lastly, a special thank you to the fans for always being there and supporting the team through the ups and even more importantly the downs - thank you!"
A versatile asset in Dos Santos' squad, Davies logged some vital minutes in the club's inaugural season. In 23 games, Davies played 1479 minutes scoring a goal and a pair of assists. While impressing in pre-season play, Davies' start to the 2015 season was hampered by a severe arm break in an exhibition match against Syracuse. The midfielder has made 5 appearances this season.
"Phil has been very important for the organization and we are losing an important piece of this team," said head coach Marc Dos Santos. "We understand his decision. He's getting an opportunity to be close to his family in a moment that he needs to be more present and he will continue to work in soccer with a region that has helped him a lot. We want to wish Phil the very best."
Davies professional career began at the age of 18 with the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2009. He moved to the Richmond Kickers from 2012-2013 before joining Fury FC for their inaugural NASL season in 2014.
The 24 year old has represented Canada at U17, U20, U23 and full Men's National Team.
With Davies departure, Fury FC have brought up Emad Houchae and Jonathan Vallée from the Senior Academy team. The pair will begin training with the first team immediately.
