Vermont Frost Heaves News Release

South Burlington, VT - The Vermont Frost Heaves are pleased to announce the signing of 2 more additional players for their upcoming inaugural PBL season. Willie Shaw, a 6'7" power forward/center from UDC and Joe Nixon, a 6'5" shooting guard have recently signed contracts with the Frost Heaves.

Willie Shaw is from Alexandria, VA and was among the top 50 high school prospects coming out of high school from T.C. Williams in 2004. Willie joined the University of District of Columbia basketball team as a junior after several years playing JUCO ball in Arizona. In his senior year at UDC, he was an All-American and placed in the top 10 in the nation in FG%. He is a tenacious rebounder and strong as an ox in the post.

"Willie has a tremendous upside as a player. He didn't start playing until he was 16 and is just now starting to realize his potential. He showed a great desire to improve during his try out, and we are excited to help him develop into a high level player." Stated Head Coach Will Voigt

Joe Nixon is a natural shooting guard who can play both guard positions. A very good rebounder and solid defender, he moves very well without the ball and is extremely difficult to guard when screened for.

Joe had this to say about coming to Vermont: "I'm very excited to play for the Vermont Frost Heaves. I have heard great things about the organization's level of professionalism, coaching staff, and fan base. In addition, after growing up and attending college in the Midwest and playing the last 6 years professionally overseas, I am looking forward to living in another part of the country for a few months and seeing what life is like in Vermont!"

Joe most recently played for Eastern Suns Australia where he averaged 29.7ppg, 7.3 rpg, 5.5apg, and shot 48% from three-point range.
