Kingston, ON - After winning all three of their games on the road last weekend, the Frontenacs return home Friday night to take on the Oshawa Generals on Country Night at Slush Puppie Place.
It wouldn't take a lot of convincing to talk Frontenacs fans into the fact that last weekend was the best of the season for Kingston. Thursday, they beat the Barrie Colts with Alex Misiak and the offence shining in a 7-4 win. Friday, the Frontenacs went into Brampton and beat the Steelheads 4-2. The final game of the weekend was in Brantford, where Kingston played their most complete game of the season, beating the Bulldogs 4-2.
How could it get better than that? Well, how about some more offensive firepower being inserted into the lineup? Thursday, Frontenacs General Manager, Kory Cooper, announced the acquisition of forward Cole Zurawski from the Owen Sound Attack. The Florida Panthers draft pick last June scored 24 goals a season ago, finishing the year with 46 points. They say you don't learn to swim until you jump in; Zurawski will slot into the Frontenacs lineup Friday night against the Generals less than 36 hours after being acquired.
Oshawa's first trip to Kingston this season comes after winning just one of their last five games. A 5-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires was a sight for sore eyes from a Generals fan's perspective, as the team had scored just four goals in the four games prior.
The storyline of goalie deployment will be an interesting one to watch for Kingston. Matthew Minchak played two of the three games a weekend ago and was great, making 30 saves on Thursday in Barrie and 24 in Brantford on Saturday. Rodyen Smith played in Brampton last Friday and was excellent also, stopping 29 Steelheads shots. The Frontenacs play Saturday night in the second installment of the Seaway Shootout in Cornwall against the Steelheads, so it's likely we see both Smith and Minchak over the course of the weekend.
Players to Watch:
Kingston: Cole Zurawski
Sometimes the best shot is the layup, how could you not want to watch Zurawski in his Frontenacs debut? "Big Z", as he was known in Owen Sound, scored his first goal of the season in his last game for the Attack on October 10th. Zurawski was thrilled when he arrived at the facility on Thursday, and it's likely that jolt of energy will carry onto the ice Friday night.
Oshawa: Kane Cloutier
Again, sometimes you just need to take the layup. Kane Cloutier returns to the building where he heard his name called first overall in the OHL Priority Selection this past June. In nine games this season, the first overall pick has two goals and four points. Frontenacs fans, keep your eye on the player you saw John Tavares and the Generals select at the top of the draft.
