Frontenacs Down 67's at Jam-Packed School Day Game
November 1, 2017 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA, ON - An ecstatic crowd wasn't enough to help the Ottawa 67's pull out a victory. They dropped their School Day Game 5-1 to the Kingston Frontenacs in front of a noisy 13,567 school kids at Canadian Tire Centre.
The loss drops the 67's overall record to 9-7-1.
It wasn't the start the 67's were looking for in the first period, with Kingston striking in quick succession to begin the game.
First, Linus Nyman took advantage of a costly errant pass from the Barber Poles to spring himself on a breakaway. He made no mistake and opened the scoring at 3:44. The Frontenacs added to their lead just 12 second later, with Sergey Popov ripping a shot passed Olivier Lafreniere right off a draw.
The score was 3-0 Kingston after one period, and Jakob Brahaney added to the Fronts' lead at 10:04 of the second, deflecting a shot off the stick of Tyler Burnie.
Ottawa's first goal of the game came from an unlikely party - Lucas Peric notched the second goal of his OHL career at 11:55 of period two, giving Ottawa a good response to the Kingston marker.
That would be all the offence Ottawa could muster. The final score was 5-1, with the Frontenacs handing the 67's a rare home loss.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
Head coach Andre Tourigny
"I think we got a little bit too excited. We were a little bit like our crowd, we were excited and full of energy but not necessarily focused on the right thing. The guys mean well but they were light on details."
On play without the puck... "We gave up a ton of odd-man rushes and their puck carriers had a lot of time. They had time to look for plays and look for his options. We're better than that."
GAME NOTES
The loss was the 67's first as the "home" team, however the team remains undefeated at The Arena at TD Place with a 5-0 record at their home barn. Despite the lopsided loss, the 67's registered 29 shots on net, only being outshot by four. The 67's also outshot the Frontenacs 16-10 in the second, where they scored their lone goal of the contest. Olivier Lafreniere stopped 28 shots in the loss. He played all but 26 seconds - Tourigny said he was removed from the game to try shifting the momentum to his team.
