RiverCity Rage News Release
POLITICS, POLITICS
I am glad the mid-term elections are over. But, there is something that puzzles me. Why is it that multi-millionaire candidates will spend millions of dollars for a job that pays $165, 200 per year? No wonder American students are having problems competing globally on their math test scores.
"T" "O", OCHO CINCO Et Al
I am growing really weary of players who think they are more important than their teammates or the game. Dallas WR, Terrell Owens and Cincinnati WR, Chad Johnson come to mind. It is too bad that there are not more guys like the Colts Marvin Harrison or the Rams Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce who just play and let the fans and media do all their talking.
Scott Pingel, former Rage WR was one of those unassuming players who just did his job on the field and didn't draw any attention to himself. He didn't need to. He performed well enough to be the most prolific receiver in college football history, as well as a record setting receiver in indoor football. After coaching Scott for 4 seasons, I cannot, once, even remember him emphatically waving his hand and acknowledging that he had just caught a pass that would give his team a new first down.
In fact, in Germany in 2003, our team was selected to be used as the back-drop for a made-for-tv movie. As the movie began, Justin Peery (former Rage MVP QB) throws a fourth down touchdown pass to Scott Pingel to win the game as time expired. Pingel had to summon all his acting abilities to even spike the football and be enthusiastic about our team's last second win. To the 11 million German people who saw the movie, it may have looked natural, but to someone who had seen Scott score numerous highlight reel touchdown catches, it looked very "forced".
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Rage WR Moses Regular and his touchdown celebrations. I think it adds to the "fun factor" of the game. But, Moses just does it and doesn't talk about it or himself.
His best one came last season, when Moses scored a TD pass and then cradled the ball in his arms as if he was rocking an infant; then walked to the dasher board pad and gently placed the ball on the pad and then removed his receiver's towel and covered the ball as though covering up a sleeping baby. He then held his forefinger in front of his mouth seeking that the crowd's silence to avoid waking the baby. There was as young boy that looked to be about 10 years old who was seated just in front of Moses little play and the look on his face was priceless. You could see that he wanted to reach out and grab the football to take as a souvenir, but looked as though he was afraid to "wake the baby".
