Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox beat the Canadians 5-3 to earn the three-game sweep at Everett Memorial Stadium. Right fielder Alfredo Morales had his best game of the season, putting together a 3-4 night with one run scored and one run batted in.

The Sox got on the board first when Morales hit a chopper between first and second base that plated Janelfry Zorilla. Zorilla led the inning with a double to left field to get into scoring position.

The Frogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a three-run effort in the fourth off Vancouver starter Ben White (1-2, 4.80 ERA). The inning began with back-to-back outs, but a two-out rally started when Carlton Tanabe got on base with a walk. Morales followed with a single and Ketel Marte drove in both runners with a triple.

Left-hander Steve Ewing made his first start of the season for the Sox and tossed four scoreless innings. The University of Miami alumnus gave up two hits and walked one while striking out three. Ewing didn't earn the decision since he didn't pitch five innings, allowing Mark Bordonaro (1-0, 6.23 ERA) to earn the win in relief.

The Canadians didn't score until the sixth inning when they knocked in two runs off reliever Marcos Reyna. The right-hander gave up four hits and one walk in the inning to allow Vancouver to cut the lead in half, 4-2.

The Sox scored again in the seventh when Taylor Ard knocked in Chris Taylor with a line-drive single. Taylor, the Mariners' fifth-round pick in the 2012 draft, started the inning with a double off the left-field wall; the shortstop continues to perform with the bat and now leads the team with five two-baggers.

Right-hander Mario De Jesus pitched the final two innings and retired all six batters he faced to earn his first save of the year.

The AquaSox will travel south Thursday to face the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes for a three-game series. The Frogs return home Sunday to face the Eugene Emeralds for three games, capping off with a postgame fireworks show July 3.
