Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders began a 12-game homestand at Riders Field with a 6-2 victory over the Amarillo Sod Poodles Tuesday night. Ranked as the Rangers 9th prospect, 20-year-old Luisangel Acuna made his Double-A debut with a 1-for-3 night and helped turn a pair of double plays in the 7th and 8th in the Tuesday win.
Texas Rangers infielder Brad Miller logged a rehab start with the RoughRiders (16-12, 52-45) in the Tuesday win. Miller has now made three appearances after being placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 18th.
Frisco starter Seth Nordlin tossed four scoreless innings against Amarillo (15-13, 47-50) in his second consecutive start with the Riders. With four scoreless innings, Nordlin stretches his run of scoreless outings with Frisco to 14.2 innings across two starts in five appearances.
The Riders began the scoring with two outs on a Sandro Fabian three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning off Amarillo starter Deyni Oliver (1-8) to take an early 3-0 lead. First baseman Blaine Crim and Acuna both singled to set up Fabian for his 12th home run of the season and his second in a week.
Riders lefty reliever Grant Wolfram (3-2) picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless innings and stranded a pair of runners by producing a threat-ending double play ball in the top of the 7th. Grant Anderson closed the door with a pair of strikeouts in the 9th.
Frisco drove in three more in the bottom of the 5th, an inning that began with the first four batters reaching base. After catcher David Garcia walked, Fabian singled to put two on for center fielder Josh Stowers, who scored both runners on his second triple of the year to give Frisco a 5-0 lead. Right fielder Aaron Zavala singled at the top of the order to score Stowers and end the Riders scoring with a 6-0 lead.
The Sod Poodles drew the total to 6-2 with a pair of runs between the 6th and 7th, highlighted by a solo home run from first baseman Leandro Cedeno for his 22nd of the season.
The Riders continue their six-game series at Riders Field Wednesday night as RHP Zak Kent (1-2, 4.92 ERA) takes the mound against Amarillo RHP Bryce Jarvis (2-3, 7.44 ERA) with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
Wednesday's are for Texas Baseball Legends at Riders Field this season! Baseball Hall of Famer and Rangers radio broadcaster Eric Nadel joins Riders fans for Wednesday's game for a meet and greet.
