Omaha Lancers News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - In the finale of the two teams' season series, the Omaha Lancers started their regular-season ending, six-game road trip in style, by virtue of a 3-2 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. With the win, the Lancers improved to 37-13-5 overall this season and with 79 points, remain alone in second place in the Western Conference standings, four points behind the first-place Waterloo Black Hawks.

In an intense, tight-checking opening frame, Cedar Rapids broke the ice, tallying the period's lone goal at 9:19 on a power-play tip by Andrew Oglevie with Charlie Curti and Andrew Poturalski collecting assists on the goal, a marker that left the RoughRiders up by a 1-0 score after 20 minutes.

Omaha came to life in the middle frame, stringing together a bevy of scoring chances that finally paid off at 8:32 of the period when Niklas Folin knifed home an unassisted high-stick wrister that knotted the game at one. Then, at 16:09, a center-blue drive from Folin was saved by RoughRiders goaltender Danny Tirone initially, but cleaned up by Anthony Angello on the rebound, as the future Cornell forward lifted the Lancers into the lead for the first time at 2-1 with Jake Randolph collecting the secondary assist on the play.

With a playoff-style atmosphere choking the building, the 'Riders tied the game at two at 5:36 of the period on a deft, two-on-one tap by Frederik Tiffels, but Omaha reclaimed the lead just 13 seconds later thanks to a visionary behind-the-net feed by Jake Randolph that sprung Luca Frigo for his 19th goal of the season, a tally that proved to be the game-winning score.

Next up for the Lancers, it's a Saturday showdown at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa at 7:05 pm in a possible first-round Clark Cup Playoff preview vs. the Lancers' Western Conference rivals, the Sioux City Musketeers. Full coverage of Saturday's game begins with the "Valpak Pregame Show" at 6:50 pm on the Lancers' flagship station, "The Mighty" 1290 KOIL with Lancers broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
