Fresno Heatwave announce new ownership
June 19, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Sacramento Heatwave News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA Co-founder, today announced that the professional basketball league has approved the transfer of ownership of the Fresno Heatwave to Fresno businessman, Reggie Davis. According to Newman, "Reggie brings a fresh approach and extrordinary business skills to the team - and we believe he will maximize the potential that Fresno provides."
A native of New Orleans, Davis is a former Fresno State University football player and alumni and has coached many youth sports teams in the Fresno area. As a builder/real estate developer, he not only invests in real estate but in people, and stated, "I see this as an opportunity to invest in bringing entertainment value to the fans of the central valley, and notoriety to Fresno as one of the top up and coming metropolitan areas of America. This is a great venue to showcase the talents of some of the area's best athletes."
He continued, "I believe it's time to awaken the "sleeping giant" (Fresno), now the number one city in America in appreciating real estate values. The city is large enough and has been starving for professional sports and more adult and family entertainment. The sports and entertainment experience the Heatwave brings is expected to help invigorate a stagnant downdown and stimulate more after 5PM business activity. We want to be a vital member of the downtown business community and a positive figure in Fresno's educational, social and economic development."
Davis concluded with, "One of the first things we're going to do is get a great General Manager and a Coach - and the search is on. We're looking for people with high integrity, strong communication skills, strong people resources, experience and the ability to get the job done well and independently. Anyone interested can send resumes, including references to: fresnoheatwave.com or call (559) 779-0100."
