FLORENCE, KY-The weather conditions wreaked havoc on the Joliet JackHammers trip this weekend to play the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League. Rain forced Sunday's game to be cancelled but the JackHammers did get some scheduled work in on Saturday, losing 9-6 to the Freedom at Champion Window Field.
Joey Gomes (1-3) led the JackHammers with a home run and three RBIs. Doc Brooks (2-3) and Pat O'Sullivan (1-4) also hit home runs. Brooks and Eric Scriven (2-4) added two hits each.
Right-handed pitcher Mike Schellinger started the game for Joliet and allowed one run on three hits over three innings pitched. Dustin Taylor, Craig Pfautz, Mike Collachio, Lance Odom and Drew Shetrone saw work on the mound for the âHammers.
The JackHammers now host an exhibition game against the Florence Freedom Monday night at Silver Cross Field at 7:05 p.m. Come check out our brand-new âJammin' With the JackHammers" meet the team event. Tickets are only $10.00 each, and include a hot dog, bag of chips and small soft drink. Plus, $5.00 from every ticket sold will be donated back to the Joliet Noon Lions Club for projects benefiting the visually and hearing impaired.
Gates will open to the general public at 6:05 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the JackHammers will sign autographs on the main concourse (6:10 p.m. - 6:40 p.m.). The Joliet Noon Lions Club will also be giving a brief, on-field presentation at 6:45 p.m. During the game, there will be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction on the main concourse. In addition, JackHammers players and coaches will be introduced in-between innings! New JackHammers field manager, Wally Backman, will briefly address the crowd and there will be a live, on-field auction after the game.
