Freedom Release 2008 Schedule

The Fort Wayne Freedom, a first-year member of the Continental Indoor Football League owned and operated by Fort Wayne Sports Partners, LLC is announcing its schedule for their inaugural 2008 season.

The first chance for local fans to "Take Back Your Freedom" in 2008 will be on Sunday, March 9th when the Freedom open up their season against the Milwaukee Bonecrushers in a pre-season CIFL contest. The Bonecrushers, also a first-year CIFL franchise, are coached by former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman, Gilbert Brown. This opponent is subject to change, but a preliminary agreement has been reached between both teams.

The regular season begins with two consecutive home games for the Freedom. The team opens up on Friday, March 21st against the Miami Valley Silverbacks and then turns around to play the Kalamazoo Xplosion on Thursday, March 27th. The match-up with Kalamazoo is part of a Fort Wayne-Kalamazoo sports weekend at the Memorial Coliseum. Following the Freedom-Xplosion game on Thursday, the Fort Wayne Komets will host the Kalamazoo Wings in a UHL hockey contest on Friday night.

"We felt as an organization that if we were going to play one off-day game, meaning not a Friday or Saturday night, we would want this night", commented General Manager Mike McCaffrey. "When we looked at the Komets' schedule, we actually requested this game from the league office. We felt it would give Fort Wayne fans something to get passionate about that week and really get into the rivalry between our great city and Kalamazoo".

After two road games, the Freedom return home to play back-to-back Saturday night home games against the Rock River Raptors (April 19th) and Marion Mayhem (April 26th). The Raptors enter their first season in the CIFL, while the Mayhem comes off a 6-6 campaign in 2007.

The Freedom finishes their regular season home schedule against the Saginaw Sting (Saturday, May 10), also entering their first year in the league, and finish against the Muskeegon Thunder (Saturday, May 24th) before ending the season with two road games.

"The exciting thing about the schedule is that not only can our fans enjoy watching us play in the friendly confines of Memorial Coliseum, but four out of six of our road game are within three hours", McCaffrey said. "We have already been talking to the fan club about bus trips and they are very enthusiastic about following their Freedom on the road".

Season tickets for the 2008 Fort Wayne Freedom season are on sale now. Season ticket packages include admission to all six regular season games, one pre-season home game, plus a potential first round home playoff game.
