Freedom name 16-player roster and two reserve players

The Washington Freedom named its 16-player roster in compliance with the WUSA’s roster cut-down deadline Monday, and signed forward Meredith Beard and midfielder Sarah Kate Noftsinger to reserve contracts for 2003. Both earned time for the Freedom in five games (Noftsinger starting in 4 of the 5) in 2002.

Freedom drop first preseason match of 2003, 3-2, to Atlanta in Memphis Saturday

The Freedom recorded the team’s first 2003 preseason loss, 3-2, to the Atlanta Beat Saturday night in Memphis, Tennessee in front of a sellout crowd of over 3,800.

Beat Forward Maribel Dominguez took a feed from midfielder Kristen Warren to beat Freedom goalkeeper Gao Hong and record Atlanta’s game-winner in the 90th minute.
