Rochester Brigade News Release
ROCHESTER, NY -- Rochester's only professional football team, The Rochester Brigade, will show the community the excitement of arena football at a free scrimmage game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena. Donations to United Way will be accepted at the door. Free tickets are available by calling the Brigade at 292-1530 or stopping by the Brigade office at the ESL Sports Centre, 2700 Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road.
United Way of Greater Rochester is the official charity of the Rochester Brigade for the 2002 season. With this arrangement, United Way will benefit from special fundraising opportunities while the Brigade will receive increased community exposure.
Brigade head coach and general manager Mark Saunders said, "As a member of this community, the Brigade is here to bring a new level of excitement to Rochester sports. And we're so happy to give back to greater Rochester with special fundraising events for United Way."
After the scrimmage game, the Ground Round will be holding a "Meet the Players Party" at The Ground Round at 2205 Buffalo Road. At this special event, raffles will be held to raise additional money for United Way.
United Way president Joe Calabrese said, "The Rochester Brigade is doing so much to help United Way meet its campaign goal, and we encourage everyone to come out to support the Brigade. If you've never seen arena football, you're in for a treat â and you'll be helping to take care of our own in our community at the same time."
The 2002 United Way/Red Cross campaign officially kicked off yesterday with a community rally for 1,300 community members at the Riverside Convention Center. The organization seeks to raise $36.2 million in this year's appeal, which ends May 16. To hold a workplace campaign, contact United Way at (585) 242-6492.
The Brigade's regular season kicks off on Saturday, April 6 at the Blue Cross Arena against the New Haven Ninjas. For ticket information, check out www.rochesterbrigade.com or contact the Brigade at (585) 292-1530.
