Birch Run, MI (February 12, 2003)—Former major league baseball all-star pitcher Frank Tanana will be giving his Christian testimony on Thursday, February 13th as part of the Great Lakes Storm's Church Family Night. Frank will begin speaking at 6:00 P.M., and will be giving free autographs from 7:05-7:45 P.M. in the Birch Run Expo Center.

"Frank Tanana's life story is a perfect example of an athlete who had everything and finally realized what was important," said Joe Pfeiffer, Great Lakes Storm's vice president of sales and long time friend of Tanana. "It doesn't matter what sport an athlete plays, it's the message that people come out to hear on a night like this."

Frank Tanana had been blessed with a successful pitching career from 1973-1993. He pitched for the Angels, Red Sox, Rangers, Tigers, Mets, and Yankees. Although he had suffered an arm injury in his sixth season, he triumphed and made two playoff appearances. First he pitched the clinching game in 1979 to win the American League West title for the Angels. Then a second time around he pitched another game clincher in 1987 to win the American League East title for the Tigers—with whom he played for from 1985-1992. Also in his career, Frank has played in three all-star games, and holds the prestigious second all-time by a left-handed pitcher in the American league.

"I was an athlete who had it all," tells Frank Tanana. "I had the fame, the wealth, a beautiful family, and still it wasn't enough. I finally got tired of being selfish. In a world filled with selfishness, jealousy, and no truth, I feel that I should tell people the truth. When they walk away from my testimony, I want them to have gain a better understanding in building a personal relationship with Christ."

After speaking to an expected crowd of 2,000, Frank will do the ceremonial tip-off. The Storm will take on the Idaho Stampede for the last time this season at 7:05 P.M. in the Birch Run Expo Center. The Storm has two remaining home games.
