Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Football Club announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency midfielder Noah Verhoeven has been signed to a USL contract from MLS affiliate Vancouver Whitecaps FC, pending league and federation approval. Verhoeven, 18, joins fellow Whitecaps FC prospects Matthew Baldisimo, Terran Campbell, and Sean Melvin at Fresno FC, along with assistant coach Robert Earnshaw.
"Noah has got tremendous upside, and tremendous potential and I see him as a player that will be involved and will contribute even though he's young," said Fresno FC head coach Adam Smith. "He's got a very professional head on his shoulders and we're excited to see him continue his career here in Fresno."
The midfielder made his USL debut last season as an academy call-up with Whitecaps FC 2 on October 7, 2017, coming on as a substitute and playing the final 16 minutes of a 1-1 draw against Real Monarchs SLC.
Verhoeven has been with Whitecaps FC since the age of nine, when he was a member of the Prospects program. He entered the full-time Whitecaps FC Residency program in September 2011. During the past three seasons playing in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, Verhoeven has played 74 matches and scored 11 goals. This included an appearance in the 2017 U-18 Academy Championship final against FC Dallas.
"We're pleased to have Noah continue on our club pathway and begin his professional career with Fresno FC," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "It will be a different environment that will challenge him, but he will have familiar faces by his side. We will continue to track his progress."
A dual citizen, Verhoeven debuted for the Canadian national team program in 2013 at a U-15 identification camp. Over the past year, Verhoeven has been called into camps with the United States U-18 and U-20 men's national teams.
