August 27, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Fresno FC News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Football Club is inviting soccer fans to support both the Foxes and the Pride of the Valley boxer Jose Ramirez in his World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Lightweight title defense against Antonio Orozco on September 14th. As part of the promotion, the first 1,000 fans that purchase a single-game ticket to the Foxes September 5th friendly against Vancouver Whitecaps FC will receive a free voucher to Ramirez's WBC World Title Defense live on ESPN's flagship channel in primetime at The Save Mart Center. The Foxes exhibition, presented by Jack In The Box, is the first in a series of friendlies for the first-year USL expansion franchise.
Ramirez (22-0, 16 knockouts) will face Antonio Orozco (27-0, 17 knockouts) in his first fight since capturing the WBC Super Lightweight title on March 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York City over Amir Imam. Orozco is ranked the third-best Super Lightweight boxer by the WBC.
"Soccer is my passion, I'm a big supporter of the Foxes and when I am able, I love to catch a game," said Ramirez. "I'm happy to team up with Fresno FC and give the 1,000 fans a free ticket voucher to my World Title defense."
Tickets for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC friendly, presented by Jack In The Box, are available for purchase at the Chukchansi Park Box Office or online at tickets.fresnofc.com. Fans who have already purchased single-game tickets, and 2018 Fresno FC season ticket holders interested in a free voucher Ramirez's world title defense, should call the front office at (559) 320-2525.
"Mexican Independence Day is the biggest sports weekend and we got the fight to our city. I would camp out to be one of the first 1,000 fans at the Foxes game to get a free ticket voucher" said Ramirez's promoter and agent Rick Mirigian.
Whitecaps FC made international news just a few weeks ago when homegrown midfielder Alphonso Davies earned an MLS record-breaking transfer to Germany's Bayern Munich. Vancouver's roster will feature a number of other exciting young prospects coming up from their academy. Kickoff for the September 5th exhibition is set for 7 p.m. at Chukchansi Park.
