Foxes Draw at Saint Louis FC to Extend Unbeaten Streak to Four Matches

April 7, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Fresno FC News Release

FENTON, Mo. - Juan Pablo Caffa's flicked header to start the second half was just enough to see Fresno FC hold for a 1-1 draw against Saint Louis FC and extend the club's unbeaten streak to four matches. The Foxes haven't lost since their USL season opener - a 3-2 defeat to Las Vegas Lights FC - on March 17th.

The Foxes (2-1-2) trailed at halftime, going down on after STLFC converted a penalty in stoppage time of the opening half. The ball took a deflection off the upper arm of defender Ramon Martin Del Campo, which was enough to award STLFC with the penalty that Corey Hertzog put away.

It didn't take long for The Foxes to strike back, with Caffa and Bradley Kamdem Fewo working the give-and-go to set up the goal-scoring opportunity. It was Caffa's second goal in as many games, and Kamdem Fewo's second assist of the regular season.

It was a quick start for both teams, with Fresno FC nearly taking an early lead from Renato Bustamante's effort at the fifth minute. Kamdem Fewo dribbled down the wing and sent in a low cross that Bustamante received near the top of the six, but his shot missed just wide. STLFC nearly regained via a corner kick late in second half, but midfielder Danny Barrera stood his ground on the goal-line near post and made the crucial stop with his left heel.

It was a bloody start to the match for Foxes' goalkeeper Kyle Reynish, who collided in midair with STLFC's Kyle Greig and landed face-first on the hard turf. Reynish came up with a bloody chin, and played the rest of the match. STLFC had another strong chance at the 35th, receiving a dangerous foul outside the 18. The set piece, however, was easily thwarted with a double-punch from Reynish on the service.

With the point, Fresno FC remains near the top of the Western Conference table with eight points in through the first four weeks of the USL Regular Season. Los Zorros will take a bye in Week 5 and return to action on Wednesday, April 18th against Tulsa Roughnecks FC at Chukchansi Park. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

EL MEXICANO MAN OF THE MATCH: DANNY BARRERA, MF

Barrera led Fresno FC with 47 total passes, including one key pass, and had a massive defensive stop help Los Zorros come away with a point on the road.

SCORING:

45+' - STL - Corey Hertzog

47' - FRS - Juan Pablo Caffa (Bradley Kamdem Fewo assist)
