Four Teams Alive in UFL Playoff Race
November 12, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1) News Release
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Thursday, November 11, 2010 - The Hartford Colonials were eliminated from the hunt for a berth in the 2010 UFL Championship Game after falling to a 41-7 defeat to the Florida Tuskers in Week 9 of the United Football League season.
The Tuskers now occupy second place in the standings at 4-3 in a bid to force a repeat of last season's Championship Game match up against the Las Vegas Locos, who have already qualified at 5-2 and have this week's bye.
"We won six in a row last year and knew that if we won three in a row this year we'd get another shot at Vegas," said Tuskers head coach JAY GRUDEN. "We have some great guys on our team and it's not hard to get them motivated to be ready to play. Everybody is chipping in and everybody is having a great time. We're happy with everything."
The Tuskers have destiny firmly in their own hands, but still have to watch out for the 3-3 Omaha Nighthawks and 3-4 Sacramento Mountain Lions, who clash on Saturday, November 13 at 8pm PDT (live on Versus 11pm EDT) at Hornet Stadium.
A Mountain Lions victory will mean they can force a three-way 4-4 tie in the standings, provided the Nighthawks in turn beat the Tuskers in Omaha on November 19.
A Nighthawks win on Saturday will earn them the same 4-3 record as the Tuskers and set up a mouthwatering winner takes all clash against Florida in Omaha in Week 10.
The 5-2 Locos have already qualified for a chance to defend the William Hambrecht Trophy in the season finale at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha on November 27 (live on Versus, 11am CDT / 12pm EDT).
The Colonials (2-5) will play for pride and in appreciation of their loyal home fan support in Week 10 and aim to upset the top-ranked 5-2 Las Vegas Locos at Rentschler Field in East Hartford on November 20. Defeat for the Locos could cost them the number one seed and the satisfaction of securing top spot in the standings for the Championship Game if the Tuskers also post a 5-3 final record and win the relevant tiebreakers.
