MADISON, Ala. - The Tennessee Smokies (54-46, 17-14) fell to the Rocket City Trash Pandas (57-43, 16-15) 4-1 Friday night at Toyota Field in Madison, Alabama. The Trash Pandas cruised past the Smokies after scoring four runs in the first inning on a pair of homers.
The Smokies' starter Riley Thompson (L, 0-4) shook off his first inning woes and put together a solid outing after surrendering two home runs before recording an out. Thompson went four innings, allowed four hits, three earned runs and struck out five. RHP Walker Powell closed the game out, only allowing one hit in four innings of work.
The Smokies' lone run came off outfielder Yonathan Perlaza's 18th homer of the season, a lead-off shot in the fourth inning. Perlaza and Andy Weber (2-for-4) combined for four of the Smokies' seven hits in a quiet night offensively. Rocket City's Chase Silseth (W, 3-0) struck out nine Smokies over 6.2 innings of one-run ball.
