Four Riversharks Named to 2011 Atlantic League All Star Team

Camden, NJ: The Atlantic League has announced its year-end awards, and four members of the 2011 Camden Riversharks have been honored for their accomplishments on field during the recently completed season. Utility infielder Lloyd Turner, starting pitcher Carlos Vasquez, and lefty relief ace Jay Marshall were on the All Star Team, selected by the Atlantic League member clubs. Additionally, outfielder Noah Hall was named to the 2011 Second Team.

"All four players are worthy of their selection to the [ALPB] All Star Team," said pitching coach, Jeff Scott. "They earned their spot on the roster through their hard work and superior performance on the field."

In his first season in the Atlantic League, Vasquez was chosen as the league's premier left-handed starting pitcher. Vasquez was electric this season recording 10 wins, the most for a Riversharks player and sixth in the Atlantic League. The Sucre, Venezuela native fanned 86 batters at the plate, and held an impressive 3.47 ERA over 19 games.

Marshall also made his Atlantic League debut this season, and was named as the 2011 AL All- Star reliever. This is Marshall's second time as a 2011 All-Star, earlier this season he was selected to represent the ‚¬ËœSharks and the Liberty Division at the Atlantic League All-Star Game in York. Overall, the lefty from St. Louis recorded nine saves over 52 innings and held a smoking 1.73 ERA. He previously spent time in the big leagues, appearing in 51 games for the Oakland Athletics.

The Atlantic League chose Lloyd Turner as the top utility player in the circuit. Over 115 games played, Turner saw action at seven positions, missing only catching and pitching. Turner led the team in hits with 128 and was second in runs scored with 71. The Georgia native finished his fourth season in the Atlantic League batting .296, his second best season average in his 10-year career.

Outfielder Noah Hall was the most used Rivershark in 2011, appearing in 116 games. This past campaign was Hall's 16th in professional baseball, and his fourth with the Atlantic League. The right-handed hitter was second on the team, driving in 64 over his 438 trips to the plate.
