Four More Make Their Way to the Park City

(Bridgeport, Conn. - April 11, 2013 ) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signings of outfielder Brian Anderson, infielders Brad Boyer and Matt Spencer, along with pitcher Edward Rodriguez.

"These four guys are all impact players," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "Brian is a big league outfielder, while Brad and Matt add depth to our infield. Edward has a strong arm and will also be an asset to our club."

Anderson comes to Bridgeport for his second season in the Atlantic League. The former Major Leaguer spent 2012 with the Somerset Patriots. Originally drafted as an outfielder, he took to the hill with the Patriots and struck out nine batters, didn't walk anyone and finished with a 1.50 ERA in six innings pitched. The 31-year-old outfielder has played nearly as many games in the Majors (355) as he has in the minors (366). He was drafted 15th overall out of the University of Arizona by the Chicago White Sox in the 2003 June amateur draft. From 2005-09, Brian spent time in the Majors first with the White Sox then with the Boston Red Sox. Overall in the big leagues, he batted .227 with 22 home runs, 47 doubles, 80 RBI and 108 runs scored. During his minor league career, Anderson owns a .287 batting average with 44 home runs, 186 RBI, and 188 runs scored.

Boyer joins the Bluefish during his second season in the Atlantic League and eighth of professional baseball. The Santa Monica native began the 2012 campaign as a member of the Lancaster Barnstormers and finished the season in the Park City. With the "˜Fish, he batted .263 in 44 games. The 29-year-old was originally drafted out of the University of Arizona in the 14th round of the 2005 draft by the San Francisco Giants. During his stint with the Giants from 2006-10, Brad reached as high as Triple-A in 2010 with Fresno. With Fresno, he hit .210 in 46 games. His best year came while playing with San Jose in the California League in 2008, where he batted .348 with 42 runs scored and 92 hits in 72 games for the Single-A Giant's team. In 2011, Boyer played his first campaign of Independent Baseball with Gary out of the American Association. In 87 games, he batted .348 had 21 doubles and knocked in a career high 68 RBI good enough for post season All-Star Honors. During his minor league career, Boyer holds a .279 batting average with 331 runs scored in 664 games played.

Spencer makes his way to Bridgeport for his first season in the Atlantic League and seventh of professional baseball. Last season, he tried pitching full time in the Chicago Cubs system. Matt totaled 15 game appearances with three different teams, reaching as high as Single-A with Daytona. He held a record of 2-1 with an ERA of 6.27 in 18.2 innings pitched. The 27-year-old began his career with the Philadelphia Phillies organization after being selected out of Arizona State University in the third round of the 2007 June amateur draft. Between 2007-11, Spencer averaged 13 home runs and 17 doubles per year and holds a career .271 in the minors. He has reached as high as the Triple-A level with Iowa (Cubs) in 2011.

Rodriguez will make his Park City debut during his third season in the Atlantic League and ninth of professional baseball. He last pitched in 2011 as a member of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. In 29 appearances (12 starts) the righthander posted an 8-4 record with a 4.14 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 100 innings pitched. The 28-year-old made his Atlantic League debut with the Blue Crabs in 2009 and remained in the independent ranks the following season with the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League. Prior to that, he spent five seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays organization, reaching as high at the Double-A level in 2008 with New Hampshire of the Eastern League. In 252 career minor league games, Edward owns a 28-21 record with a 3.79 ERA, 336 punchouts and 18 saves over the course of 434 innings of work.
