Four Former Rogues Drafted in 2016 MLB Draft

Medford, Oregon - Four former Medford Rogues were drafted in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft over the weekend, increasing the total number of Rogues drafted by MLB teams to 11. Chad Hockin (2013), Chris DeVito (2014, 2015), Austin O'Banion (2015) and Dan Mayer (2015) heard their names called as major league clubs made their picks.

Dan Mayer (University of the Pacific) was drafted in the 37th round by the MInnesota Twins. He played for the Rogues last season and was explosive at the plate. Mayer finished the season with the highest batting average on the team, .307, scoring 32 runs on 59 hits. Mayer also holds franchise and league records for the West Coast League for most homeruns in a single season with 12. He also set franchise records for most RBIs in a season (36), most doubles (13) and most homeruns in a single game (2).

Chris DeVito (University of New Mexico) was drafted in the 8th round by the Kansas City Royals. He played for the Rogues in both 2014 and 2015. DeVito finished with a career batting average for the Rogues .259 with 8 doubles, 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and one stolen base. This season at New Mexico, he was named District VIII Player of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America and was a member of the All-Tournament Team after the Lobos' Mountain West Conference Championship.

Chad Hockin (Cal St. Fullerton) was taken in the 6th round by the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of the 2013 team in Medford as a right-handed pitcher. Hockin finished the summer with a 2-1 record and 4.39 ERA. He started 5 games, pitching 30.2 innings, striking out 17, walking 16 and giving up 30 hits.

Austin O'Banion was drafted in the 37th round by the Texas Rangers and was a part of the 2015 roster for the Rogues. O'Banion scored two runs with two hits and a homerun for the Rogues. At Fullerton College, O'Banion finished the season batting .335 with 6 home runs, 57 RBIs and 4 stolen bases.

The Rogues face the Marysville Gold Sox next at Harry and David Field, June 13 at 6:35pm. It is a green out, and all fans that wear green to the game will be eligible for a $5 bleacher ticket, while supplies last.
