Fotopoulos Named Commissioner's Pick

ATLANTA (Thursday, June 12, 2003) - The Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) today announced that Carolina Courage forward Danielle Fotopoulos has been selected as a Commissioner's Pick for the 2003 Hyundai WUSA All-Star Game. Fotopoulos will suit up for the WUSA American Stars when they take on the WUSA World Stars on June 19 at SAS Stadium.

The WUSA's May Player of the Month, Fotopoulos leads the WUSA in scoring with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. In addition, the 5-foot-10 striker is the league's all-time leading scorer with 27 goals and 22 assists for 76 points in her three-year WUSA career. With WUSA Commissioner Tony DiCicco's addition of Fotopoulos to the American Stars roster, the squad now features 10 players who were members of the 1999 Women's World Cup champions, including eight of the players who started against China in the championship match.

Featuring the best women's soccer players in the world, WUSA athletes include Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Tiffeny Milbrett, Briana Scurry, Kristine Lilly, Julie Foudy and dozens of international stars. Approximately 50 WUSA players will compete in the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup in China in September and October. The eight WUSA teams are the Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, Carolina Courage, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, San Jose CyberRays and the Washington Freedom. The 2003 Hyundai WUSA All-Star Game will be televised on ESPN2 on Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET at SAS Stadium.
