SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze have agreed to terms with rookie defensive back Justin Taplin-Ross, the franchise announced today. A University of Utah product, Taplin-Ross joins the Blaze after attending training camp with the Dallas Cowboys.

"Justin is a big, physical defensive back that can contribute in our secondary," said Head Coach Ron James. "He's an excellent man-to-man cover corner that has the strength to take on the bigger wide receivers of the Arena Football League. Being able to add a player of Justin's caliber from our own backyard is a huge benefit to our defense."

Taplin-Ross (6-3, 215, Utah) played in 48 games during his collegiate career at the University of Utah and totaled 100 tackles (65 solo), one sack, seven tackles for loss, two interceptions, four pass breakups and one forced fumble. As a senior in 2010, he started all 13 games at free safety for the Utes and delivered 62 tackles (41 solo) with 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions and one pass breakup.

"I can't wait to get started," said Taplin-Ross. "It's going to be great playing in front fans in Utah again. I can't wait to get with my teammates and work towards bringing a championship to Utah."

Taplin-Ross attended 2012 training camp with the Dallas Cowboys and saw action in one preseason contest against the Oakland Raiders.
