
Former Tomahawks Defenseman Nelson Signs with Buffalo Sabres

JOHNSTOWN - The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to announce that former defenseman Casey Nelson has signed an entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres.
A native of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., Nelson was a part of the Tomahawks inaugural 2012-2013 season, scoring 10 goals and adding 22 assists in 56 games. Nelson led all Tomahawks defenseman in goals, assists, and points.
"I couldn't be happier for Casey on such an unbelievable accomplishment. I was very fortunate to work with him during our first season, and you could see the type of outstanding player he was during that year. It's a special day for the Tomahawks to see such a great alumnus, but more importantly, a fantastic person, achieve a dream like this," said Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia.
Nelson recently completed his third season with the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks, tallying 22 points (six goals, 16 assists) in 40 games. Nelson earned the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year Award and was a member of the All-WCHA First Team.
Nelson is the second Tomahawks player to connect with an NHL team, joining Ryan Bednard, who was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
