Lowell Spinners News Release

This Wednesday night, Spinners fans will be in for a real treat, as former Spinner Justin Sherrod will be one of 25 contestants on ABC's latest reality series "The Bachelorette." The show premieres at 9 p.m.

Sherrod was a member of the Lowell Spinners in 2000, and was a 19th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox out of Rollins College (FL). Sherrod played this past season in Portland as a member of the Sea Dogs, and should be competing for a spot with the Pawtucket Red Sox this spring.

Will Sherrod win the heart of Meredith Phillips or will he be a one-night wonder? Tune in tomorrow at 9 p.m. to find out.

Spinners 2004 Charity Partner

This year, the Lowell Spinners are proud to announce that they will partnering with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America in 2004. The foundation is committed to curing and preventing Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, a disease that is estimated to be found in one of every 100 Americans.

The Spinners will be organizing events throughout the year to help support the foundation. One of the events already planned is the 3rd Annual Spinners Alumni Dinner to be held on Friday December 3rd. This past year's dinner was a great success, and with your help, we were able to raise $28,000 for the Cystinosis Research Network. Together with your help, we hope that our efforts for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation will be just as successful.

Spinners Alumni Winter Ball Update

It may be the offseason for the Spinners, but a few of our past alumni were still busy during the offseason. A few former players participated in some of the various warm climate Winter Ball Leagues, fine tuning their skills for the upcoming season.

Third Baseman Kevin Youkilis ('01) hit .259 in 35 games for the Navoja Mayos of the Mexican League. Youkilis also displayed his trademark discipline at the plate, as he logged an on-base percentage of .413. Short Stop Raul Nieves ('00) turned in a solid performance in the Puerto Rican League for the Ponce Lions, hitting .286, while appearing in 28 games. Tony Blanco ('00) hit well for Tigres de Licey in the Dominican League, hitting .385 in 14 games. He was joined on the team by highly touted former Spinner Hanley Ramirez ('02)

Spinners Trivia Contest

This issue, we have a trivia contest to help get everybody excited for all of the fun giveaway items planned for the park this season. The prize is an autographed baseball of former Spinner Mike Maroth ('98). Maroth plays for the Detroit Tigers, and was honored this past December as the recipient of the 2nd Annual Dick Berardino Alumni Award.

This issue's Trivia Question is: Name every past bobblehead giveaway in Spinners history. The Maroth Autograph ball will be awarded to the first correct response emailed to jgoode@lowellspinners.com. Limit one guess per contestant. Good Luck!
