Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

Former Sox shortstop KC Serna has been sold to the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Serna played in all 100 games for the Sox in 2013, including 97 at shortstop.

Serna was drafted in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft in the 42nd round by the Cleveland Indians out of the University of Oregon. After one year at A-level Mahoning Valley, Serna wound up in independent baseball with the Sox.

Serna had a stellar year with the Sox in 2013, hitting .304 with 45 RBI and 17 stolen bases. He was named Baseball America's top overall prospect in independent baseball in October. The Sox traded Serna to the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball this offseason in exchange for infielder Cory Morales.
