Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

BOARDMAN, OH. - The Mahoning Valley Thunder is pleased to announce, in conjunction with the arenafootball2 League Office, that Wide Receiver/Defensive Back Clarence Curry (6'1, 208) has been assigned to the 2009 roster. Curry enters his third season in the af2 and first with Mahoning Valley.

No stranger to the arena game or the Thunder, Curry spent part of the 2007 season and all of 2008 with Thunder division rival Albany. As a member of the Conquest, Curry played in 17 games over the past two seasons lining up primarily as a Defensive Back but also seeing spot duty as a Wide Receiver. Overall Curry totaled 73 tackles, four interceptions, two tackles for loss, 14 pass-breakups, a fumble recovery and one reception resulting in a five yard touchdown. Curry teamed with Defensive Back Brandon Taylor, a recent addition to the Mahoning Valley roster, while a member of the Conquest.

Previously, Curry played for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals during the 2004 campaign, before being allocated by Arizona to play for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe the following season. A one year stint with the AFL's Philadelphia Soul followed, before spending parts of the 2007 season with the AFL's Nashville Kats and New Orleans Voodoo.

A native of New Jersey, Curry was named Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference as a senior at Villanova University. With the Wildcats Curry recorded 112 total tackles, 29 pass-breakups and five interceptions.

THUNDER HEAD COACH MIKE HOLD SAYS:

"Having Clarence on the roster is an immediate upgrade to our secondary. He's been around the game for awhile and brings experience to our defense. He's shown the ability to make plays on a consistent basis and is rarely out of position. As a coaching staff, we expect Clarence to be an extra coach on the field. He'll set a great example for our younger players."
